Known Appli­ca­tion

11A-HYDROXY-18-METHYL-ESTR-4-ENE-3,17-DIONE pos­sess­es antian­dro­genic activ­i­ty. It can bind to andro­gen recep­tors, inhibit­ing the action of andro­gens. This poten­tial makes Mifepri­s­tone use­ful in the treat­ment of cer­tain andro­­gen-depen­­dent tumors (such as breast can­cer and prostate can­cer) and con­di­tions char­ac­ter­ized by exces­sive andro­gen levels.

And 11A-HYDROXY-18-METHYL-ESTR-4-ENE-3,17-DIONE can bind to glu­co­cor­ti­coid recep­tors and dis­play some glu­co­cor­ti­coid recep­tor antag­o­nis­tic activ­i­ty. This poten­tial indi­cates its pos­si­ble appli­ca­tion in the treat­ment of cer­tain con­di­tions involv­ing glu­co­cor­ti­coid excess and mod­u­la­tion of the bio­log­i­cal effects of glucocorticoids.

11A-HYDROXY-18-METHYL-ESTR-4-ENE-3,17-DIONE has also shown oth­er bio­log­i­cal activ­i­ties such as anti-insulin effects, anti­co­ag­u­lant effects, and anti­tu­mor effects. These actions are being inves­ti­gat­ed and explored to fur­ther under­stand the poten­tial clin­i­cal appli­ca­tions of Mifepristone.
