It is an iodo­nium salt pho­toacid gen­er­a­tor (PAG) with the fol­low­ing uses :

  1. Pho­toacid gen­er­a­tor (PAG)
    After being irra­di­at­ed by ultra­vi­o­let light (UV), elec­tron beam or laser, it releas­es strong acid (H⁺) to trig­ger sub­se­quent chem­i­cal reac­tions. Main­ly used in : pho­tore­sists (espe­cial­ly chem­i­cal­ly ampli­fied pho­tore­sists), micro­elec­tron­ics pro­cess­ing (such as semi­con­duc­tor man­u­fac­tur­ing), 3D lith­o­g­ra­phy, micro-nanos­truc­­ture patterning
  2. Cation­ic poly­mer­iza­tion ini­tia­tor
    The struc­ture con­tain­ing iodo­nium cations can release active cations under light to ini­ti­ate poly­mer­iza­tion reac­tions such as epoxy resins, vinyl ethers, etc. Used in : UV-cur­ing coat­ings, pho­to­sen­si­tive adhe­sives, elec­tron­ic pack­ag­ing materials
  3. Struc­tur­al improve­ment in high-per­­for­­mance PAG research
    Com­pared with oth­er iodo­nium salts, the intro­duc­tion of iso­propyl and methyl struc­tures can improve pho­to­sen­si­tiv­i­ty, ther­mal sta­bil­i­ty or sol­u­bil­i­ty. The anion B(C₆F₅)₄⁻ (tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate) is an ultra-weak­­ly coor­di­nat­ing anion that does not under­go side reac­tions with the active cen­ter, which helps to improve the reac­tion efficiency.
