Specifications and Other Information of Our Blue Light Absorber ChemWhat 1499437 CAS 1877301-52-4

Introduction

Blue Light Absorber ChemWhat 1499437 is a highly efficient, red-shifted benzotriazole-based light absorber. Derived from the structural backbone of the classic product UV-326, it has been optimized through a conjugation modification involving the introduction of a p-tolylthio group at the 5-position.

Properties

  1. Red-Shifted, Narrow-Band Absorption & Sharp Cut-Off
Compared with conventional benzotriazole absorbers (λmax ~340 – 350 nm), ChemWhat 1499437 exhibits a significant red shift with an absorption maximum around 365 nm. The 5-position thioether modification provides an exceptionally sharp absorption profile : spectral scanning shows 0% transmittance at 390 nm and nearly 100% transmittance at 430 nm. This enables precise blocking of harmful high-energy visible blue light, especially within the 400 – 420 nm range.
  2. High Visible Light Transparency & Low Yellowing
While delivering excellent UV and blue-light shielding performance, polymer substrates can still maintain a total light transmittance of ≥87%. Unlike conventional red-shifted absorbers, ChemWhat 1499437 rapidly becomes fully transparent beyond 430 nm, resulting in extremely low background coloration and meeting stringent optical requirements for low Yellowing Index (Y.I.).
  3. High Thermal Stability & Extremely Low Volatility
The 5% weight-loss temperature (TGA) exceeds 280°C, making it highly suitable for high-temperature melt processing applications such as PC and PET extrusion, injection molding, and film stretching. Its higher molecular weight combined with the unique aryl thioether structure effectively suppresses sublimation, significantly reducing mold deposits, die build-up, and vacuum line blockage during production.
  4. Excellent Compatibility & Solubility
The optimized steric hindrance and aryl thioether structure provide outstanding solubility and compatibility in a wide range of polar and non-polar resins, including PC, PMMA, PET, and optical monomer systems such as CR-39 and MR series materials. Long-term use helps prevent precipitation, migration, haze increase, or surface whitening.
  5. Outstanding Weather Resistance (High Light Fastness)
The robust benzotriazole backbone enables efficient energy dissipation through the Excited-State Intramolecular Proton Transfer (ESIPT) mechanism, significantly delaying substrate yellowing, degradation, and gloss loss under prolonged light exposure.

Known Application

Widely used in high-end optical and electronic materials requiring strict UV and high-energy blue-light blocking performance :
