Known Application
Geneticin (G418 Sulfate), an aminoglycoside antibiotic, is an inhibitor of 80 S ribosomes extension. It can block polypeptide synthesis by inhibiting the extension step in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. It blocks polypeptide synthesis by interfering with ribosome function. It is not a commonly used standard antibiotic, but is often used to select prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells transfected with neomycin resistance genes. It is widely used in gene transfer, gene knockout, resistance screening, and transgenic animals.
