Ruthe­ni­um car­bonyl is often used as a cat­a­lyst in organ­ic syn­the­sis. It facil­i­tates the reac­tion between car­bon monox­ide and organ­ic com­pounds, lead­ing to the pro­duc­tion of car­bonyl com­pounds. These reac­tions are sig­nif­i­cant in the syn­the­sis of phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals and oth­er organ­ic com­pounds.
