Advan­tage

Gal­li­um mal­to­late, by offer­ing the advan­tages of enhanced bioavail­abil­i­ty, poten­tial­ly improved ther­a­peu­tic prop­er­ties and ease of admin­is­tra­tion, could sig­nif­i­cant­ly expand the ther­a­peu­tic poten­tial of gal­li­um. To inves­ti­gate the use/​treatment of blad­der can­cer, lym­phoma (not spec­i­fied), mul­ti­ple myelo­ma, pag­ing dis­ease and prostate cancer.

Known Appli­ca­tion

Gal­li­um mal­to­late is a nov­el active for­mu­la­tion of gal­li­um, a semi­met­al ele­ment, and a potent inhibitor of ribonu­cleotide reduc­tase, an enzyme that pro­motes tumor growth. Gal­li­um is also thought to con­cen­trate in malig­nan­cies and sites of infec­tion, and appears to favor­ably affect cal­ci­um depo­si­tion, mak­ing bones more resis­tant to degra­da­tion caused by can­cer metastases.
