Known Application
N-Tosyl-L-alanine 3-indoxyl ester is widely used in biochemical assays to measure the activity of enzymes, especially peptidases and esterases. When these enzymes hydrolyze the ester bond in the substrate, 3-indoxyl is released, which can further oxidize to form a colored product. This color change is measurable and can be used to quantify enzyme activity.
