N,N-DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE is a polar sol­vent with excel­lent sol­u­bil­i­ty for many organ­ic com­pounds, espe­cial­ly those insol­u­ble in water. It is fre­quent­ly used as a reac­tion sol­vent to facil­i­tate organ­ic chem­i­cal reac­tions and improve reac­tion efficiency.

N,N-DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE is exten­sive­ly employed in the pro­duc­tion of poly­mers such as polyamides (nylon), poly­imides, and polyurethanes. It serves as a reac­tion medi­um, sol­vent, or regen­er­at­ing agent in the man­u­fac­tur­ing process.
